Dr. Yu’s primary research interest focuses on characterizing upper airway collapse in obstructive sleep apnea in order to improve surgical success. Currently, Dr. Yu is involved with several projects, including:

  • Use of novel ultra thin endoscopy for natural overnight sleep endoscopy (NOSE) to study upper airway collapse patterns
  • Use of submental ultrasound to calculate ultrasound echointensity as a metric of tongue fat
  • Craniofacial metrics associated with obstructive sleep apnea
  • Use of odds ratio product in predicting surgical success with hypoglossal nerve stimulation

Dr. Yu has also received several grants and awards to continue pursuing his research interests:

  • Sleep Research Society Career Development Award
  • University of Pennsylvania, Division of Sleep Medicine T32 Research Training Grant
  • University of Pennsylvania, Department of Otorhinolaryngology Oto Pilot Grant
